Antica Terra 2007 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley

As part of my "Round 3" line up of Oregon pinots, the Antica Terra 2007 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley (13.5%) was not only the final bottle to be opened, but also the most expensive at $45. As such, there was considerable anticipation in giving this wine a try, for I had heard favorable things about its quality.
In the glass, the Antica Terra 2007 Pinot Noir was a clear, medium garnet red delivering bright strawberry and raspberry fruit notes combined with a dusty earthiness. In the mouth, this Willamette Valley pinot noir offered red fruit flavors and acidity that brightened the palate. The finish was clean and crisp, without much lingering taste.
We paired the Antica Terra with grilled pork chops that had been seasoned with herb salt and cooked to medium rare. Grilled red peppers tossed in olive oil and fresh cut herbs along with grilled bread and a side salad completed the meal.
Considering the number of really good Oregon '07 pinots I have tried at half its price, the $45 Antica Terra came with high expectations. That said, this wine clearly needs more time, for it a bit too bright, if not austere, at this point (decanting would help). Even after trying it again the next day, the vibrant acidity had yet to calm down.
Although I would pass on buying this again, I will keep an eye out for the opportunity to try another glass or bottle of the Antica Terra '07 down the road. In doing so, it will offer an interesting frame of reference on how time helps or hinders a wine of this style.
