Evesham Wood 2008 Rosé of Tempranillo “Vin d'Une Nuit”

I subscribe to the notion that the lighter the color of rosé, the better the wine. Such is the case with the Evesham Wood 2008 “Vin d'Une Nuit” (12.5%), a rosé of tempranillo from Oregon that was a refreshing wine to have during the recent heatwave here in Seattle.

This isn't a wine that makes you say "wow!"; rather, it's a wine that prompts you to say, "ahhh!". In the glass, the Evesham Wood rosé a very light peach color with a slight perfume of red berry fruit and notes of minerality.

The Vin d'Une Nuit offered clean, crisp flavors without the viscous, syrupy, tannic taste of many rosés in our region. This is a delightful summer wine, one we enjoyed on a very hot night recently with an antipasto plate of cured meats, pates, cheeses, and various pickled vegetables.

At $13, I found this to be a winner relative to many Spanish and French rosé at the same price point. And it's a clear standout amongst its New World peers here in the Pacific Northwest. With almost two months of summer left, I need to pick up a few more bottles of the refreshing wine.

I'm excited to try this! I have never had Rose made from Tempernillo! And Evesham Wood is right down the road!

Your comment about the lighter the color of rose' the better piqued my interest. In checking our recent Wine Peeps rose' tasting dinner, I found that the winner was pale salmon in color, but the second and third place finishers (out of six) were bright pink.
I enjoy your posts.

Hey John, you might enjoy reading this post, "If the drink is pink, color counts". I concur with Kathleen's assessment here, as I have found that the lighter the color, the better the rose'. Thanks for your comment.
