Dobbes 2007 Grande Assemblage Cuvée Pinot Noir

dobbes-grande-assemblage-pinot-2007.jpg

What a terrific wine the Dobbes 2007 Grande Assemblage Cuvée Pinot Noir is.

In the glass, this Oregon pinot noir ($26) was a light ruby red delivering strawberry, raspberry, and cherry fruit to the nose along with hints of truffles, fennel, white pepper and dusty earth. I really enjoyed the red berry fruit flavors and balanced acidity that led to a lush and long silky finish.

We paired the Dobbes pinot (13.5%) with grilled Jamaican jerk chicken thighs, fresh Washington asparagus, and steamed herb rice. This wine was a wonderful complement to our meal and one that I am definitely going to get more of on my next visit to the store.

I am becoming a big fan of Joe Dobbes after enjoying this wine as well as his Wine By Joe 2007 Pinot Noir. It's clear Joe has a winemaking style that is to my liking. I can't wait to try some of the other pinot noirs he has crafted from the 2007 vintage.

I have found this to be a very consistent wine with "correct" pinot flavors, good balance and a high QPR in all vintages. Based on initial reports on the '07 vintage, I expected the '07 to be lighter than the '06, but it was almost exactly the same.
